There's been a lot of hubbub in the media about the JCPenney Father's Day ad featuring a family with two dads, specifically my family. Todd, the kids and I have have seen our picture plastered on news stations, newspapers, magazine's and blogs from around the world.

The outpouring of support from hundreds of people we already know and hundreds more that we've never met has been nothing short of amazing. Seriously, it's been one of the most heart-warming experiences of our lives...and it's gotten us thinking.

Why was this opportunity to share our "normal" family with the world presented to US? What are we supposed to do with it? Whether you believe in God, Buddha, Allah or Oprah, this sort of thing gives you pause and makes you wonder if there's a bigger purpose for the whole thing. At least it does for me.

Since this whole thing became a media sensation two weeks, I've been hearing this voice inside me telling me that I need to take charge of this moment and turn it into something that can help others like us know that they have a voice and that they're being recognized as part of the fabric of America. And to help those who want to have families figure out how to do it.

Between the kids' field day at school, Mason's birthday party and running two businesses myself, I haven't had a great deal of time to give it a lot of thought, but it's always on my mind. So I thought this was a good place to start. For the last couple of years, I've let this site run itself without much involvement. It's grown slowly to more than 100 members, but I think it's got the potential for so much more. So I'm rededicating myself to it, if for no other reason to be the first step in figuring out what to do next.
